Not Ashamed

I am convinced that EVERYONE goes through a "Stage." My stage I like to call the "Awkward, nothing looks good on me cause I am way too skinny stage." I think that I started off pretty dang cute. Correct me if I am wrong, but you are rude if you do :). Here I am, still in the cute phase...my grandma had just given me my first perm. I cried almost the whole way through because I was certain I was going to get solution up my nose. My grandma vowed never to give a grandchild a perm again after her experience with me.

Still cute, an innocent. No awkwardness quite yet.

It's starting. My body is starting to grow faster than I am ready. Clothes start to hang a little funny on me, my teeth have all grown in, but decided to do so in a crooked manner and my hair can't decide if it should be curly or straight.

Full blown awkwardness. I am not the only one experiencing this though. As you can see, all of my cousins and brothers are too. Steve (on the right) thought it was cool to mix and match stripes and plaid (he wanted to start a new trend), my whole wardrobe consisted of striped shirts and I had NO clue how to do my hair, and I should be fair and only talk about my awkwardness and no one else. They are all innocent with this post.

I was also terrified that my freckles would take over my face so I stayed out of the sun as much as possible or always wore sun screen. Notice I am by far the whitest one in the picture.

Sigh....striped shirts once again...and pegged pants. Thinking it is cool to use brother as a prop in my picture. If you look really close you might see my sister's troll ear rings. Sorry Juls. I said I would not involve others with this, but I could not resist!

Once again...another striped shirt. It was an 8th grade phase. I thought the pegged pants looked really cool still.

Girls camp. I used to think this picture was sooo cool! Probably because I was trying so hard to be friends with Kim (who is now one of my closest friends). She was SO COOL in my eyes. I think I helped braid her hair.

I could go on, but I will spare everyone for now. I have many more pictures where that came from. It took about another 10 years after this picture to grow more into my body. I did not feel QUITE as lanky, but still was self conscious. These pictures really make me laugh. Thank you Benson cousins for being ok with this (I did not ask permission, just assumed). Im not ashamed of my awkward stages. I feel mine lasted for quite a long time, and maybe still going through some type of "stage." I will call it the, " I am starting to thicken around the middle, and cry at the drop of a pin," stage.
I think that Junior high was so tough at times though. I thought for sure that I was the only one experiencing the awkwardness, because in my eyes, everyone was so much cooler! Ha...so funny to think back on. I am grateful for those times, for real, because I always had my mom to tell me that I was beautiful and special. So, very random post, but I am just really enjoying this scanner!

Ok you were CUTE!!! Man, I had sooo many awkward stages, and I wasn't cute at all! :)

I had a horribly awkward stage, from about 7-17. It was awful. I know about that crying stage too. That wasn't quite as bad as the other awkward stage though.

Nice! I think I was the ugliest one in those pics. I always thought you were gorgeous and looked up to you. And I love the pics at the temple. How cute!

Now I'm enjoying the scanner, too! Fun post. Brave post. I can't relate to the tall thing at all. :P

I've got to scan a picture of my horrible 4th grade perm, you would die!

I laughed so hard during this whole blog. I think us tall girls have much harder awkward stages because we couldn't just be awkward and blend into the crowd. We loomed a good foot above everyone else so our awkwardness could be seen by all.

Oh, I almost forgot -- Congratulations!!! I am so excited that you're pregnant!

I love this post! I love seeing pictures of people when they were growing up/ I think I looked exactly the same, just skinnier. I think you've inspired me to do a similar post in the near future!!! BTW how is primary going?

Primary is good, but we miss you! It has been pretty hectic because we really have not had a secretary for over a month, so we get a little crazy on Sunday. But, the kids are great! It's still wierd without ya. Have you found a job?

When is the due date? BY THE WAY! The picture with you infront of the pool had my me react out loud! That's AMAZING! I'm so relieved so see someone else had almost as akward a phase as I did. Mine was from about 3rd grade till 7th, AT LEAST! Love the peg leg pants. MC Hammer 2L2Quit!

I remember the stripes! My sisters had the Gimmie striped shirts and I was lucky enough to get them as hand me downs.

Hey Lindsey!!! I finally talked to Katie about our crazy story!!! That is insane that you know brittany as well, did you say hey on her blog? So I want to have everyone over to our new place so let me know what saturdays are open for you guys and we might see you at the Gold and Green ball on Sat?

CONGRATULATIONS! Brittany told me you were pregnant. I'm so excited for you! And yeah, we can be freaked out & learn all the stuff we need to know at the same time! I'm more excited than freaked out though. I wish you lived closer too but regardless, we should all get together soon. Are you going to the temple on the 28th? If not, you should plan on it. Tyson is outta town so I'm going to meet up with Brittany & other people there. On a different note...I don't think you look awkward. You should see my nasty junior high pics! Ick. I don't know if I have the guts to post them. I recognize the girls camp pic! I was there too! ha ha.

oh the joys of being an awkward adolescent..makes me want to post my ugly pics too=) Should we intervene with our future girls and help them out or is it best to let nature run its course? Did our mothers know how awkward we were? hmmm...

I NEVER thought you were awkward!!! If you think you were, you should have seen me, your mother!!! I tried really hard to make sure you always looked nice!!!
I LOVE the pictures!!!! Very Cute!!!

WOW this post got a lot of publicity. maybe i'll post pictures of me when I was little and see if I get 18 comments out of it. haha! THANKS so much for having everyone over last night. That was super nice of you guys (especially you since I know you probably did MOST of the work). It was a blast. We shall do it again soon. We need to get together lots before we say bon voyage. :( IF we say bon voyage... still trying to figure out life.

Oh how I relate! Gotta love the awkward stage! Mine was from about 6-17, and I will NEVER post my pictures. I didn't show most of the to Greg til AFTER we were married, just to make sure he wouldn't run. And, surprisingly, he still agreed to have a kid with me!

Those were some delightful pictures. I think I remember Steve's plaid shorts, striped shirt combo. It is a shame that trend never took off, it was a good look. Congrats Lindsay! That is big news.
