A Little More About Florida...

Some exciting news for the day. We have been praying really hard that I will be able to find a job. I have submitted my resume everywhere and I have had no email responses, call backs, nothing (now, I know that it takes time to find a good job, but, we just do not have a ton of money to be waiting for too long). I was at Office Team the other day, a Placement Company, and I got a phone call from a guy from a company called Thinking Systems. I assumed it was another Staffing Company that some how got a hold of my resume so I was not in a hurry to call back. I was wrong though and realized that I had applied for a job with his company as an Office Manager (It is easy to lose track when you apply for many jobs). Anyway, I went in for an interview on Wednesday. It was going really well until he told me that he already made an offer to someone else, but he would rather give it to me (she had not given him an answer yet, and kept pushing back the date to tell him). I did not mention that he happened to be a member of the church (he started talking to me about it during the interview and said that he would rather work with a member than a complete stranger!!). I felt good about the company and interview and decided to take the job if the other girl declined the offer. He called me today and said that he wanted to make the offer to me. I had to go in for one more interview (with his partner of the company) and his partner did not seem as excited about me because I did not have the office experience that he wanted. But, I got him to like me and they offered me the job (they lowered what they originally offered, not by much, because the partner thought I was offered too much. Oh well...). So, I start work on Monday and really excited. Scott is going to bored stiff without his one and only!! I really feel blessed to be out here, that we made the right decision (hopefully that feeling stays!).
I can handle the humidity, the heat and random rainstorms, even the blasted lizards and gigantic grasshoppers...BUT, they pest control people NEED to do something about the blasted sugar aunts that we get in our kitchen. They are these micro size aunts that scurry around the counters. They drive me insane. I don't even want to cook for fear of them sneaking into our food!! Other than that...things are good. They really are falling into place for us. I am, however, ready to start working again. After three weeks of being unemployed...Im ready to go so, BRING IT!

We should get you a tool belt with bug spray on it so that whenever you are faced with an ant you can show it who's boss! Seriously, though, I HATE ant. Sorry for that one. The job sounds great though. Good Luck!

Hey Lindsay!

Hooray for Florida and Congrats on your job!! And sorry to hear about the ants - I asked my hubby about what you should do - --seeing to the fact he sold pestcontrol the past 3 years...this is what he says to do...
See if the ants are trailing and if they are see if you can follow their trails to where they are entering/exiting the apartment. If you can find these holes, cover them up with caulking or something else so that they can’t come into your house as easily.

Regardless of whether or not they are trailing, I would do the following. Buy TERO Ant Baits. I would place these wherever I saw the most activity, usually under sinks, or in corners of counters would be good places.I would also buy Ortho-Home Defense (you can get it at home-depot, target etc). After leaving the baits out for a day or two to give the ants time to eat it and (hopefully) get it back into the nest to kill off the queen, I would then use the Ortho Home Defense and spray around the floorboards, under counters, window sills, basically anywhere that I saw ants before. You can spray on counter tops, but make sure it is far back and that you don’t plan on placing food all over the sprayed area. Make sure that you make a line all the way around the outside of the wall and the inside of the wall if possible. Then, if they come back, repeat. If they live in an apartment, it will probably be very hard to get rid of them all, since the ants will have other apartments where food and water are readily available. Make sure you keep your house as cleans as possible and keep fighting them off. Spray and then keep spraying about every two weeks for about a month - and then spray about every 6 months. Good Luck!!

So hopefully that helps! Take care! :)

Congrats on the job! That is exciting! Cycling class isn't the same without you! We find out Monday or Tuesday if we are moving to California. I'm trying to not get my hopes up too much, so I won't be disappointed if we don't!

Ummm...I promise I can use the right spelling of the word aunt and ant. I just noticed that. How embarrassing.

We had an ant problem in our first home and Joe went around caulking every opening in that place. After that, we never had ants enter our home. So if Scott is bored, send him around with a caulking gun.

One quick trip to home depot I'm sure would do the trick. Just buy some bug spray and you can start your own company. Who needs pest control right? So glad you got a job..yipee. but i will miss you on gmail my friend. cause now it's...crickets crickets
